Large tree felling
Where there is genuinely room to put a tree on the ground, felling is the right call. It is faster and it costs less than dismantling. The work is in making a large tree lighter and shorter before it goes over.

Weight comes off the top first
- Reduce first. Limbs and the top come off before the trunk is cut. By the time a big tree goes over it is lighter, shorter, and far more predictable.
- Work the lean. Every tree already wants to go somewhere. The cut plan starts from where it is leaning, not from where it would be convenient.
- Clear the fall path. What is under it, what is beside it, and where everyone is standing gets settled before the saw starts.
- Buck and clear. The trunk is cut down to manageable rounds and the wood goes out.
Where we work
Based in Clayton. Most of the work is in Rabun County and around Lake Burton and Lake Rabun, and we travel up to about two hours out for the right job. That reaches most of northeast Georgia, western North Carolina, and upstate South Carolina. If you are not sure whether you are in range, call and ask.
Common questions
How do you know if a tree can be felled or has to be climbed?
It comes down to room. If there is a clear path long enough for the whole tree with nothing valuable under it, felling is faster and cheaper. If there is a house, a deck, or a power line in that path, it gets climbed and dismantled instead.
Do you leave the wood?
Your call. It can be bucked and left for firewood or hauled off entirely.
How big is too big?
